Circular Facts launch,

Collaborative structure 24 Apr 2010, 15:00-16:00

On 24 April at 15.00 at Casco - an interval during 'Hurt Locker Instruments' - the launching event of 'Circular Facts' takes place with an introduction by Binna Choi, Mai Abu Eldahab and Emily Pethick, the directors of the three initiating institutions.
Circular Facts is a collaborative endeavor between three European contemporary art organizations: Casco – Office for Art, Design and Theory, Utrecht, Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp, The Showroom, London in partnership with Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen and Electric Palm Tree. The project is an informal think-tank and a mutual support structure that works as a hub for the production and dissemination of artistic projects. The emphasis of the collaboration is on finding non-bureaucratic ways of working together, the sharing of imaginative thinking, and open-ended forms of circulation. Beyond our common interest in maintaining a climate conducive to artistic creativity and criticality is a desire for a pragmatic and sustainable model for co-production, which we hope to continue beyond the scope of this particular project.
The organizations involved have a common focus on supporting artistic practices that have a critical engagement with ways of thinking around our contemporary conditions, in particular through foregrounding different forms of artistic research. Through our collaboration we are interested in expanding the possibilities of what an art organization can be in order to best facilitate and understand these kinds of practices, which is something we believe we can do most effectively together.
Circular Facts forms an itinerary for the production and presentation of art projects, creating a circuit through which experience, meanings and ideas can travel and be exchanged. Six or more artists will produce projects that will be developed across the different platforms offered by our spaces. Each project will be based upon specific research, and will be realized over two or more sites. The projects will be built up over time, absorbing input from each local context. No two presentations will be the same, and each will involve an ongoing dialogue between the artists, curators and the surrounding contexts. In addition to this we plan to organize workshops, group projects and finally a publication.
Circular Facts aims to be a vehicle for the transportation of different local, intellectual and cultural resources. Incidentally reflecting upon the broader context of the shifting terrain of Europe, the project seeks out conditions for productive exchanges and connections. Through artistic modes of knowledge production and mobilization, we hope to broaden perspectives on how different localities – consisting of their respective and distinctive intellectual and cultural resources such histories, institutions, archives¬ – can encounter and regenerate each other, celebrating plurality in negotiations, based on the meeting of singularities.
