Thursday 13 January 2022
20:00–21:00 / Online
English with live captioning
In the remaining time of our four exhibitions by Family Connection, Ola Hassanain, Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide) and Mariëlle Videler, we cordially invite you to join us for a short, sprightly online conversation with each artist in turn. Moderated by a different Casco team member each time, we’ll guide the casual talk and learn more from the artist.
Ola Hassanain
As the final artist in our online series, we cordially invite you Thursday 13 January for the Artist Q&A with Ola Hassanain – whose exhibition Workable Geographies has been on view for the past two months. Since the meticulous and prolific work is currently closed due to the lockdown in The Netherlands, we hope this Q&A offers a glimpse into her installation room, as well as providing an elaboration to the stories and history behind it.
Any of your questions would be welcomed. Otherwise, we will talk deeper about her work, which aims to probe conversations about land use, environmental justice, sustainable economic prosperity, democratic civic engagement, and relationships to physical space and place.
To get to know more on these dynamics in practice, Ola Hassanain’s collaborating partner Studio Urban will also be joining the conversation. Studio Urban is a Khartoum-based research studio focused on city life.
RSVP via mail and include a question you might have beforehand, or feel free to share them in the chat. You are able to jump in anytime during the session via this Zoom link. The Q&A will be held in English and includes live captioning.
Family Connection
Entering a new year, we kickoff on Thursday 6 January for an Artist Q&A with Family Connection – whose group exhibition Den tur circumstancia nos lo sigi move (Under all circumstances we will continue to move) has been on view in lively fashion for the past two months. Since it is currently closed due to the lockdown in The Netherlands, we hope this Q&A offers a glimpse into their works, as well as providing an elaboration to the stories and history behind them.
Any of your questions would be welcomed. Otherwise, we will talk deeper about the constellations and dynamics of Family Connection, the 1983 video report of the Antilliaanse Carnival in Utrecht made by then art student Rudsel Martinus and more.
RSVP via mail and include a question you might have beforehand, or feel free to share them in the chat. You are able to jump in anytime during the session via this Zoom link. The Q&A will be held in English and includes live captioning.
Sara Sejing Chang (Sara van der Heide)
Thursday 16 December we will talk with Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide) – whose ongoing art project The Mother Mountain Institute is on view at Casco HQ until 20 January 2022. Any of your questions would be welcomed. Otherwise, we will talk about the philosophy behind The Mother Mountain Institute, highlighting the voices centred in this work, the Shapla Community and other causes Sara wishes to support and elevate.
RSVP via mail by 15 December and include a question you might have, or feel free to share them in the chat. Zoom and further details are to be shared a day in advance of the event. The Q&A will be held in English and includes live captioning.
Mariëlle Videler
Thursday 9 December we kick off with Mariëlle Videler, whose impressive work 365 PLANTS is on view at the Travelling Farm Museum depot in Leidsche Rijn. Any of your questions would be welcomed. Otherwise, we will talk about Marielle’s triptych 365 BIRDS / 365 PLANTS / 365 INSECTS and future projects, as well as her vision on spatial design, the creative process and influences on her work.
