The screening and discussion take place on the second floor of Parnassos Cultuurcentrum. There are a few stairs at the entrance that can be passed by means of a ramp. The ramp will be in place for the event from 19:00 till 22:30h. Please let us know if you need the ramp before or after and we make sure it will be in place. Inside, there is a wheelchair-accessible lift that brings you to the second floor. The gender-neutral, wheelchair-friendly bathroom is on the ground floor. The film is in Spanish, the subtitles are in English and the event conversation will be in English, Yvonne Jobse will provide sign language interpretation (NGT) for the post-screening discussion. The interpretation is made possible by IN Gebaren. We also ask that you come “scent free” (no perfumes or strongly scented products) in consideration of those with environmental illnesses and multiple chemical sensitivities.
Continuing our discussion on (a)sexuality, love, and intimacy in the context of the project-exhibition Army of Love – which is on view until Sunday, 25 February – Casco will screen the 2015 film Yes, We Fuck!, by activist for the Independent Living Movement Antonio Centeno and activist and documentary filmmaker Raúl de la Morena. The screening and the following discussion led by activist Naomi Doevendans will take place at Room 207, Parnassos Cultuurcentrum, Kruisstraat 201, 3581 GK Utrecht.
Yes, We Fuck! documents six sincere and varied stories about sex and functional diversity, where sex is turned into a pleasurable e weapon for people’s individual and collective rights. Beyond sex, this project shows not only what sexuality can do for people with functional diversity, but also in what ways the reality of functional diversity can contribute to human sexuality. Antonio Centeno is a contributor to Casco’s project-exhibition Army of Love with Dora García and Ingo Niermann, wherein his recorded lecture details his activism in Asistencia Sexual and his work as co-director and actor in the movies Yes, We Fuck! and Vivir y Otras Ficciones.
After the screening, activist Naomi Doevendans will lead a discussion on the themes of functional diversity and sexuality. Naomi is an activist and starting politician born and raised in Amsterdam, who identities as a pansexual woman. As for her chronic illness, she believes that it’s a part of her instead of her identity. Her motto, therefore, is “my illness is not what makes me disabled, it’s the society that does.” By understanding multiple minorities in relation to one other people with physical and mental disabilities, people with psychological issues, homeless youth, and LGBTQH+-she has found her career path in activism and politics self-revealing. Besides campaigning she gives lectures, presentations and able-bodied privilege trainings to care workers, activist and public transport officials. She extensively works on research funded by the city council of Amsterdam to gain insight on LGBTQ+ homeless youth. She used to write blogs for an English online magazine called Liability where she documented experiences of people who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community and have a disability or chronic illness. Naomi aims to continue this work in the future to tell more of people’s stories on their terms.
