Workshop and Undoing Property book launch with Marysia Lewandowska and Laurel Ptak

After Stockholm, London, and Berlin, Undoing Property?, a book and project by London-based artist Marysia Lewandowska and New York-based curator Laurel Ptak lands in Utrecht. The workshop, hosted by Lewandowska and Ptak, looks into contested relationships between what is privately owned and publicly shared in contemporary art and life, asking: What is the fate of cultural expressions today? How might we describe tensions between creativity, authorship, value, law, and the state at the intersection of ownership and art? Do galleries and museums have a role to play as productive sites for critique or activism in regards to open culture?

To answer these questions, the workshop proposes a “re-release” of Undoing Property?, specifically for the context of Casco, making use of the non-exclusive rights agreement and open design template created specially for the book. It actively explores the complicated space between art, intellectual property rights, immaterial production, and the role of publishing in creating a public.

You are welcome to download the entire Undoing Property? publication.
