During Keti Koti or Dia di Abolishon we commemorate the abolition of slavery in 1863 in Suriname and the former Antilles. Locally in Utrecht, the following events take place around Griftpark. On 30 July there will be the presentation of the monument Vlucht en Verzet by patricia kaersenhout. That day there will also be guided tours of Sporen van Slavernij Utrecht, a tour initiated through Nancy Jouwe’s led research that covers this city’s ties to colonial exploitation, slavery, and the global slave trade. On 1 July, during Keti Koti, there will be a myriad of activities, including speeches, performances, and food.
