Following our open call for new Supervisory Board members last November—and after a thoughtful and inspiring process of conversations and exchange—we are delighted to welcome Betina Abi Habib, Maja Bekan, and Godelieve Spaas to the Supervisory Board of Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons. Each of them brings a wealth of experience, unique perspectives, and a deep, heartfelt commitment that resonates with Casco Art Institute’s mission to cultivate tools and models for non-capitalist ways of living together—through radical imagination, artistic social practices, and the commons. We look forward to the journey ahead and extend our sincere thanks to everyone who responded to our call and took part in this meaningful process.
Betina Abi Habib is a Lebanese visual and performance artist based in Utrecht. Her multilingual, collaborative work uses scriptwriting as a method of unlearning and reimagining. She lectures at HKU and was Design Facilitator at De Voorkamer (2021–2024). Betina holds degrees in Architecture (AUB) and Scenography (HKU).
Maja Bekan is a performance and visual artist from former Yugoslavia, based in the Netherlands. Her long-term, research-based projects explore collaboration, social engagement, and the generative power of participation, often with women as protagonists. She is a co-founder of ADA and initiator of P for Performance.
Godelieve Spaas is Professor of Art | Culture | Transition at HZ University of Applied Sciences. Her work explores how art and embodied knowledge can drive systemic change and reimagine the economy as a shared, regenerative space. She is also Firekeeper at the World Ethic Forum and Associate Director at the Pari Center.
Betina Abi Habib, Godelieve Spaas, and Maja Bekan join Ansuya Blom and Irene van Renswoude, dedicated members of Casco’s Board who have stood by the organization throughout its recent ecosystemic shift, alongside Martijn Jeroen van der Linden, to whom we now bid a warm farewell. We extend our deepest gratitude for his long-standing commitment to Casco. Your vision, care, and dedication have meant so much—and you will be greatly missed!
