Magic Pen by Cahaya Juliastuti Fuller

Book launch organized with Reading Sideways Press

22 June 2024, 13:00–15:00 (Bring your kids!)
/ Casco HQ, Lange Nieuwstraat 7, 3512 PA Utrecht

After the collective launch of the book Berita Gunung Berapi: Planetary Politics in a Volcanic Age (2023) in December, Reading Sideways Press returns to Casco Art Institute on June 22, just after the solstice, to introduce us to Magic Pen (2023).

Magic Pen is an artistic coloring book by a member of the collective and youngest publisher from our ecosystem, Cahaya Juliastuti Fuller.  The book explores the possibilities of making coloring-in activities as a gathering space in our community.

The day’s program is dedicated to drawing. With Nuraini Juliastuti and Andy Fuller, we reimagine drawing as a form of research and theory-making. From Cahaya, we hear the story of how the book came into being and what it means to her. Following this exchange, we engage in a playful, collaborative drawing and wordplay experiment in our sunny courtyard. This experiment will begin with a series of ‘impossible images’ envisioned by Cahaya and members of the Casco and Arts Collaboratory network expressly for the day.

The session is accessible and equally fun for all ages. Please feel encouraged to bring the children in your family or community along!

Reading Sideways Press, founded in 2018, is an independent press focused on books about art, literature, and sport. RSP was established by researchers and writers Nuraini Juliastuti and Andy Fuller with the intention of bringing various research practices and explorations under one banner.
