As the new season begins and our team has returned to office, we warmly invite you to Uitfeest, the start of Utrecht’s cultural season, at Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons.
This weekend we once again come together with Mutual Support Platform (MSP), a solidarity network initiated by HKU MAFA students, alumni, and teachers. MSP reflects on the realities of creative life, providing a space where collaboration, care, and shared practices are experienced directly. This festive and collective effort has become a cherished part of our post-summer rhythm, marking the transition into a new season and a new cycle of artistic study.
MSP’s project Artfairing as a Practice features during the two days, which reimagines markets as sites for research, exchange, and experimentation. Led by second-year MAFA students and alumni, it explores collaborative organizing and donation-based economies, highlighting the relational processes and care behind their creative trajectories.
Expect a vibrant market, workshops to join, and performances and installations to witness. You can read, eat, listen to music, swap plants and clothes, discover publications and embroideries, receive hand-poke tattoos, experiment with spraycan interventions on canvas and textiles, encounter live drawing, and take home handmade jewelry.
All of this unfolds in a convivial setting of exchange and connection with the people behind the work. Participating MSP artists include Anya Palamartschuk (Flaming June), Changli Luo with YellowMotelComfort, Fatemeh Asiri, Fleur Carlier, Jasper Yi Cao (Cactus Stapler), Jeehae Kim, Joao Silva, Kexin Hong, Manuela Viezzer, Mirella Moschella, Nuraini Juliastuti, Sohrab Kashani (DJ Soh), Wanci Jiang, Wang Xue Sophia, and Zoë Sluijs. Our wider activities during the two-day program also include the release of Kunstoverlevingspakket (Art Survival Kit) by neighbouring artists Gretha Hengst, Marijke Breuers, and Mel Chan. On both days, there is a performance by Gretha Hengst together with Kalthoum Boufangacha, and on Saturday, there are various interactive sessions with Mel Chan as well.
Alongside, our Casco Kiosk is present with a wide array of shirts, publications, bags, and more from the Lumbung and Arts Collaboratory ecosystems!
As a citywide celebration, Uitfeest invites audiences from across Utrecht to explore cultural spaces and participate in the city’s artistic life. We are thrilled to be part of it–this is their final edition–and look forward to welcoming you at Casco.
