Sites of Memory presents Future for the Past: a journey through time to show “hidden” stories from the colonial past. Artists from South Africa and the Netherlands give their vision on this topical subject in song, poetry, dance, visual arts and theatre. To be seen in Utrecht between 2 and 10 October. Future for the Past was developed in Amsterdam in 2020. As a result of historical research into colonial history by cultural historian Nancy Jouwe, the performance concept has been adapted to the city of Utrecht.

We also recommended Nancy’s tour Unlearning Modern-colonial institutions during our Assembly in 2018, where she discussed the city’s colonial past, as well as her recent book Slavernij en de stad Utrecht.
