Call for Participation – Bodily Remembering: collective dance performance to honor Earth defenders

Bodily Remembering is a minga of six meetings initiated by artist and filmmaker Ana Bravo Pérez in collaboration with performance artist Flavia Pinheiro, curator Joram Kraaijeveld and womxn, queer and trans people from the Colombian diaspora in the Netherlands. Artists, feminists, activists, dancers, friends and other supporters are invited to work collectively on a dance performance to honor female social leaders who have lost their lives in the frontline of the climate crisis.

A minga is a (Kichwa word that means) solidarity meeting of friends, allies and neighbors to do some work together for a common cause. Relating to this way of organizing social meetings, Bodily Remembering is a series of gatherings meant to offer a communal setting to reconnect to our bodies (histories, sensations) and create collectively through dance a homage to the women that have been defending nature. During these six meetings the participants will be invited to explore elements and lineages of ancestral ritual dances as well as their latent manifestation in contemporary culture, from the synchronicity and geometrical formations of military marches to the trance states of different counter-cultural dances, to support this cause. The mingas also offer preparation for a dance performance in the public space that will be recorded on film.

The mingas have space for up to 12 participants. More information about dates and locations will be shared after sign-up. If you are interested in participating, please write a short motivation before 10 May to bodily_remembering@proton.me

Participation in all 6 meetings is required. On all days lunch, drinks, fruit and snacks will be provided. There is compensation available for public transport and also compensation for the time investment for all participants. Note: No professional dance experience is required. Desire to move and explore with the body is enough :))

Bodily Remembering is leading up to a decolonial anti-monument that will be installed at Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons in the summer of 2023.
