Closing program of The Land School, 2026 Autumn exhibition program with 4Siblings x itacateca
14 & 15 November 2026 / Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons, Lange Nieuwstraat 7, 3512 PA Utrecht
Open Saturday & Sunday, 12.00–18.00
Come and celebrate the closing of The Land School with us and many friends. But closure also means making room for what comes next, in the spirit of the cyclicality that land teaches us!
As we continue the processes set in motion by many hands throughout the exhibition program, the Land Market brings together artists, collectives, and friends from our wider ecosystem to share food, recipes, stories, and interdependent ways of living together.
On Saturday, at 13:00, join former Casco curator and holistic death care worker Staci Bu Shea for a conversation and workshop on death and decomposition as part of life’s ongoing cycles of transformation and regeneration. In dialogue with 4Siblings and participants, we create rituals to better approach death, consider more ecologically aligned burial practices, and discuss how death can inform how we live together, in line with their book and ongoing research Dying Livingly.
Then, at 15:00, local storytelling artist Janneke Kornet takes us into Utrecht’s horticultural past, bringing 17th- and 18th-century plant-based flavours back to the table. Expect historical conserved recipes of quinces, local onions, and stories of the gardeners who once cultivated the land around the city. What did people grow and preserve, and what can we learn from it?
Later in the afternoon, at 16:30,4Siblings, together with artists Ulufer Çelik and Özgür Atlagan, welcome Rene Rocabado for a conversation on hunger, survival tactics, digestion, and the Bolivia-Netherlands route. Alongside the conversation: chuño, dried potatoes made by Aymara people, and a recipe for volcanic-clay “mayonnaise.” Come for the potatoes; stay for the chatting!
On Sunday starting at 12:00,Adam Tenorio and Gina van der Ploeg, students from HKU MAFA, invite us to a cooking workshop, Honoring the Corn Soot Woman: How to Make Sacred Tacos. Working with nixtamalized blue corn and huitlacoche (a fungus treasured as a delicacy in Central America), they share experiences of immigration and the histories that emerge when people cook and eat together across cultures.
At 15:00, join While Kitchen-ing for Mourning Across Boundaries: Food, Masks, and Collective Practices of Grief with Cristina Solleiro (Mareah Psicologia) and Athina Koutsiou from the collective. In this mask-making workshop, kitchen scraps and recycled materials become wearable objects through which participants process grief and memory. Participants are invited to bring one or two clean food-related materials connected to a recipe.
And that’s not all. Throughout both days, the office gallery turns into a lively market to meet people from our wider ecosystem, converse with strangers, find merchandise from our Kiosk, and more!
Friends from Rural School of Economics bring stories and products from Ommuurde Tuin, a community-supported garden exploring ways of farming without chemicals or artificial fertilizers. KUNCI Study Forum & Collectivepresent their publications alongside a collection of rocks, feathers, and dried plants. Members of Sentieri bring olive oil and wine from Abruzzo, Italy.
The Outsiders offer harvests from Leidsche Rijn’s farms and gardens, as well as a babushka-making workshop. In line with their publishing practice and our new Risograph machine, Cactus Press joins us, selling prints and zines.
Happening at various times throughout the building, there will also be flash tattoos inspired by the imaginary of The Land School, with Macs Chávez and Mirella Moschella, and a sound performance by Luke Cohlen featuring recordings from The Land School‘s summer program.
Come by, hang out, and visit the exhibition one more time. We look forward to seeing you!
